What is a real Christmas tree?
A real Christmas tree is exactly that — a naturally grown evergreen tree that has been cultivated for the festive season. Unlike an artificial tree, every real tree develops its own shape, branch structure, fullness and character.
That natural variation is part of its appeal. One tree may be slightly wider, another more layered, and another particularly full around the base. No two are completely identical.
At Floristika, our Christmas collection features Premium Noble Fir Christmas trees sourced from Holland. Noble Fir is especially popular for Christmas because of its fresh evergreen scent, attractive foliage and strong branches for decorations.
Why Noble Fir?

Natural differences in height, fullness and shape make every Noble Fir individual.
From Holland to your home in Malaysia
A real Christmas tree has already been on quite a journey before it reaches your living room.
The trees spend years growing before they are ready for the festive season. Once selected, they are harvested and carefully netted so their branches remain compact and protected during transportation.
When the trees reach Floristika, our team handles and prepares them before delivery or collection. The tree may initially look narrow while it is still inside its protective netting — once the net is removed, the branches gradually relax back into their natural shape.
Floristika has been bringing real Christmas trees to Malaysia for more than 20 years, with more than 12,000 trees finding their way into homes, offices, hotels, restaurants and festive spaces over the years.
What size Christmas tree should you buy?
Before ordering a real Christmas tree, measure both your ceiling height and the available floor space.
Remember to leave extra height above the tree if you intend to add a star or other tree topper.
| Tree Size | Approx. Height | Best For |
|---|---|---|
| 5/6 ft. | 150–175 cm | Apartments, bedrooms & office corners |
| 6/7 ft. | 175–200 cm | Condos & most living rooms |
| 7/8 ft. | 200–225 cm | Landed homes & larger living rooms |
| 9/10 ft. | 250–300 cm | High ceilings, showrooms & event spaces |
| 12/13 ft. | 350–400 cm | Hotels, malls & large lobbies |

How to keep a real Christmas tree fresh in Malaysia
Caring for a real Christmas tree in Malaysia is different from caring for one in a European winter.
Our weather is hot and humid, while many Malaysian homes use air-conditioning for long periods. The goal is therefore simple: keep the tree hydrated, cool and away from unnecessary heat without exposing it to strong dry airflow.
1. Keep the trunk in water
Humid weather does not replace the tree's need for water. Once a Christmas tree has been cut, it continues losing moisture through its foliage.
Keep the base of the trunk submerged in clean water and check the water level every day, particularly during the first few days after your tree arrives.
2. Air-conditioning is fine
An air-conditioned room can actually be beneficial for a real Christmas tree because the cooler temperature helps reduce moisture loss.
However, avoid positioning the tree directly underneath or in front of an air-conditioning vent. Constant dry airflow blowing onto the branches may cause the foliage to lose moisture faster.
Cool room • indirect air-conditioning • no direct sunlight • trunk always in water
3. Avoid Malaysia's direct heat
Strong afternoon sunlight through a window can warm up an indoor area surprisingly quickly.
Keep your real Christmas tree away from:
- Direct afternoon sunlight
- Large windows that become hot during the day
- Balcony doors receiving strong sun
- Cooking areas and ovens
- Other heat-producing appliances
4. Malaysia is humid — but don't over-spray the tree
Malaysia's naturally humid climate may help reduce moisture loss from the foliage, but there is no need to keep spraying or soaking the branches.
In warm and humid conditions, continuously wet foliage with poor ventilation is not ideal. Focus on keeping the trunk hydrated while allowing the branches and needles to remain naturally dry and well ventilated.
5. Use LED Christmas lights
LED Christmas lights generate considerably less heat around the branches than older-style bulbs, making them a practical choice for a fresh tree.
Switch the lights off before going to sleep or whenever nobody is home.
6. Keep your tree in one stable location
Avoid repeatedly moving the tree between a cool, air-conditioned room and a warm outdoor or balcony area.
Once you have found a cool indoor location away from direct sunlight, it is better to leave the tree there and maintain a relatively stable environment.
7. Plain water is enough
There is no need to add sugar, soft drinks or other homemade mixtures to the Christmas tree stand.
What matters most is ensuring that the tree always has access to sufficient clean water.
Real Christmas tree vs. artificial tree
Neither option is right for everyone. The choice depends on the type of Christmas experience you want.
Choose a real tree if you love:
- Natural evergreen fragrance
- Individual shape and character
- The tradition of choosing a new tree each year
- Natural branches and foliage
- The experience of decorating a fresh tree
Choose an artificial tree if you prefer:
- Minimal maintenance
- No watering
- The same shape every year
- Long-term storage and reuse
- Very quick setup
Frequently asked questions about real Christmas trees in Malaysia
Can a real Christmas tree survive in Malaysia?
Yes. A cut Noble Fir can be enjoyed indoors in Malaysia when properly cared for. Keeping it sufficiently watered, away from direct heat and in a relatively cool indoor location will help maintain freshness.
Should I keep my Christmas tree in an air-conditioned room?
An air-conditioned room is suitable. Cooler temperatures can help slow moisture loss, but avoid placing the tree directly in front of the air-conditioning vent.
Does a real Christmas tree need water every day?
Check the water level every day. The important point is to keep the base of the trunk submerged and never allow the stand to remain dry.
What size Christmas tree is suitable for a condo?
A 5/6 ft. or 6/7 ft. Christmas tree generally works well for Malaysian apartments and condominiums, depending on your ceiling height and available floor space.
Which real Christmas tree is best for ornaments?
Noble Fir is particularly popular because its naturally strong branches can support Christmas lights, baubles and hanging ornaments well.
